	Attachment versus generalised sociability
a	Though a parent may become attached to an infant almost as soon as the baby is born the infants capacity to become selectively and securely attached to the parent or primary caregiver takes several months to develop not all parents recognise this because infants are sociable from the moment of birth preferring human companionship to contact with inanimate objects it may seem as though they 'love' their parents instantly however until they reach 3 to 5 months of age babies sociability and attraction to people is largely indiscriminate very young infants will happily accept comfort from almost anyone who holds feeds or soothes them in fact an experienced grandmother babysitter or paediatric nurse who has become adept at these skills through caring for many babies may be preferred to a novice mother who is lacking in such expertise	Check your answer
